Success is a series of small victories.
In my twenties, I was fascinated by achieving big goals, taking significant actions, and doing big things. However, I soon realized this approach is stressful, exhausting, and unsustainable.
As peace and growth are among the top values in my life, I started looking for a way to achieve more "peaceful growth." That's when I began focusing on building more tiny habits.
The results have been remarkable. I have gained a lot more without burning out.
If you want consistent and peaceful growth, try adopting these tiny habits. Most of these habits take less than three minutes (and some under five minutes)
30-second cold shower — Studies show cold showers may stimulate blood flow, boost mood, and promote healthier skin and hair. However, if a full cold shower seems like torture, just 30 seconds of cold water at the end of your warm shower is as effective.
20 Pushups — Try doing a few (10-20) daily pushups. Pushups are beneficial for building upper body strength when done with proper form. They work your core, lower back, chest, arms, and shoulders. Best of all, you can do them anytime and anywhere.
5-minute walk — New research has found that a five-minute walking break can help regulate blood pressure and control blood sugar. I take three to four walking breaks during the day, which helps improve my mood, reduce fatigue, and enhance my overall well-being.
Morning Motivation — I listen to motivational audiobooks or podcasts during my first-morning walk. It's a great way to start the day positively. Listening to just 5 minutes of uplifting content set my mood for success.
One Place for Everything — I have designated one place for all my stuff. I always (try to) put them back in the same spot after use. This simple habit saves a lot of time and mental energy that we spend trying to find misplaced items daily.
10% headstart — I plan each hour of my next day, preparing all the necessary details for each task in advance. Doing this builds positive momentum, avoids confusion and conflicts, and minimizes procrastination. I call this strategy a "10% headstart."
Four Breaths — Before each meeting or call, I take four mindful breaths (long and slow inhales and exhales). This habit helps me be more aware and focused. It also helps me be more relaxed during each meeting. It takes less than 30 seconds but provides a significant mental energy boost.
Ten-second mental picture — Each time I go to a new place (cafe, restaurant, etc.), I take the first 10 seconds to observe and scan the whole place before I touch my phone or engage in conversation with others. It's like recording a video through our brains. We spend so much time, and money going to new places but don't fully immerse ourselves in them.
Three Alarms — I set three alarms on my phone that goes off at different times during the day. These alarms have a quote or message that helps me reflect on something or feel inspired. It's a simple but highly effective technique for positive daily reminders.
Thee Minute Journal — I write down three wins or things I am grateful for that day in my digital journal before going to bed. It helps me sleep better, lower stress, and makes me more optimistic and happier.
Spiritual Reading — I read a few pages of a spiritual book before sleeping. Spiritual books always have positive, peaceful, grounding thoughts that help me relax and sleep better.
Key takeaway: Focusing on getting 1% better every day by performing tiny daily actions is the key to peaceful growth.
