Effective date: October 3, 2026
Ember Redact is designed to process sensitive PDF documents privately on your computer. We do not collect, transmit, store, sell, or share your personal data or the contents of your documents.
Information We Collect
Ember Redact does not collect personal information.
The app does not collect:
PDF contents
Detected text or redaction matches
Names or custom phrases
File names or file locations
Contact information
Usage history
Analytics
Advertising identifiers
Device identifiers
Location information
Crash reports sent directly to Ember Redact
Tracking information
Local Document Processing
All PDF scanning and redaction occur locally on your computer.
Your documents, detected matches, and custom phrases are not uploaded to Ember Redact or sent to a cloud-processing service.
Ember Redact does not require an internet connection to scan or redact a PDF.
File Access
Ember Redact accesses a document only after you select it using the standard macOS file picker.
When creating a redacted copy, you choose its filename and save location using the standard macOS save window.
The app does not search through or access unrelated files on your computer.
Your original PDF is not modified or deleted. Ember Redact creates a separate redacted copy at the location you select.
Accounts
Ember Redact does not offer or require user accounts. We do not maintain customer profiles or account databases.
Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking
Ember Redact does not include:
Analytics software
Advertising networks
Tracking technologies
Marketing SDKs
Social-media SDKs
Third-party data-collection SDKs
We do not track your activity across apps, websites, or services.
Network and Cloud Services
Ember Redact does not upload documents or use cloud services to analyze their contents.
The app does not send your documents, detected text, or redaction selections to Ember Redact or any third party.
Apple may separately process App Store purchases, downloads, and optional system diagnostics under Apple’s own privacy policies. Ember Redact does not receive the contents of your PDFs through those services.
Data Sharing and Sale
Because Ember Redact does not collect personal data, we do not sell, rent, disclose, or share personal data with third parties.
Data Retention
Ember Redact does not retain your documents or redaction information on our servers because the app does not transmit that information to us.
Files you open and create remain in the locations you choose on your computer and are controlled by you.
Document Security
Pages containing approved redactions are rebuilt in the exported PDF so the removed information is not left underneath a removable annotation overlay.
Your original document remains unchanged. You are responsible for sharing the redacted copy rather than the original file and for reviewing the finished document before sharing it.
Automatic detection may not identify every sensitive item, particularly on scanned, image-only, unusually formatted, damaged, or encrypted pages.
Children’s Privacy
Ember Redact does not knowingly collect information from children or any other users. The app does not require an account and does not transmit document contents or usage information to us.
Your Privacy Rights
Because Ember Redact does not collect or retain personal data, we generally have no personal information to access, correct, export, or delete.
If you contact us for support, we will use the information in your message only to respond to your request. Do not send sensitive or confidential documents when requesting support.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if Ember Redact’s features or data practices change. Any revised policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
If a future version begins collecting information, this policy and the app’s App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before that collection begins.
